Smoke

I watched a couple videos about drugs and their "relationship" with spirituality and I was about to make a reply but after I turned on the camera , as I was thinking about what I was about to say, I realized that Gary (DoNotGod, Inmendham, etc on YouTube) said everything there was to be said and I remained "wordless" so instead this turned into a smoking video.

Yes I use pot, not everyday but most of the times I use it a couple times a week, although there are times when a couple months go by without smoking just cos I don't feel like it. The thing is, I admit I smoke it because I like it, not because I think it's "beneficial" (for me) in some other way. And I like it cos' it makes me feel good without having to pay a high price for it (not talking about money). I never got into harder drugs. I never even got into smoking tobacco precisely because (for me) the price I'd pay is not worth the pleasure I'd get from it. I know people smoke pot for different reason but please just stop with the "argument from spirituality" ... smoking pot doesn't "enlighten" you, it doesn't make you see things clearer, it doesn't make you understand things better, it doesn't make you a better person and it certainly DOES NOT lead you to "another dimension". It's just chemicals affecting the brain, nothing more , nothing less.

However, I do hate it when heavy drinkers are preaching about how bad pot is. It may be for you but not for me. I do drink on occasions but never to get drunk because I DON'T LIKE being drunk. I like being high. For me, alcohol is an inhibitor while pot is an activator. When I'm drunk I just feel nauseated and wanna go to sleep. When I'm high I feel like I wanna dance and write and think and talk about everything and fuck and go out in the rain. I just feel good and for me personally, in some 12 years since I've been an occasional pot smoker, there have been no side effects besides the fact that sometimes (rarely) my eyes sting a bit for a couple hours.

Anyway, here's the smoking video ...I know it's all pointless and shit but I just got Hollywood like that today. What can you do ?

unfortunately for me, alcohol and pot are both inhibiters now, even thought they didnt used to be. l can still smoke bush leaf which l grow in the back yard, it just gives me the little buzz i like, not that 'clubbed' feeling :)

Hmm...drugs and drinking have always creeped me out, just because of how much they change people. Not permanently in most cases, but just for a while.
I also don't like drugs in general because of the whole process of their production, and the corruption the whole industry causes.

But whatevs. If it makes you happy...and you don't have anything important to do afterwards =P

You didn't look like you wanted to DO stuff. Of course i think there is a difference between smoking alone or with friends and in front of a camera, but still... I liked that you got a little drunk (i think) in a video and then high in another :D

Pot makes you smart and booze makes you dumber. But all of them are a form of social control.
With pot you can stop armored conflicts and with alcohol you can make people more violent.
Pot and other harder drugs can improve creativity. Weed is relatively safe and with LSD or coke you can easily go to the "dark side".
Most of the talented artists are good example for this.

For the religiosity & drugs I like this one:
Moses: Let My People Get High?
http://www.forbes.com/2008/03/05/moses-exodus-drugs-face-cx_ll_0305autofacescan02.html

My theory is that at some point in the early history some people used accidentally plants with psychotropic or hallucinogenic effects (maybe weed or mushrooms) and they had visions which they relate to a magic world. They thought that they actually see gods or other magical creatures and then tried to share these experiences with their peers. But the peers didn't eat any weeds and can't relate with the feelings of the "mystics". Probably they try to imitate the other habits of the people with the visions. In time the message was distorted and a form of early religion was created.

Bravo.

Like watching TV, pot can become a habit, for some folks. I smoked pot from 1968 to 1991, and when I decided to stop, it was as easy as falling off a log. I feared that I was going to go through withdrawals of some kind.
I tossed and turned after my head hit the pillow, the first night for an half hour, that's the extent to the misery. I don't crave the drug at all. It not a narcotic. It's easy to quit. And I've never seen anyone die from pot, unlike alcohol, heroin or the prescription narcotics the doctors push. I don't recommend any drug, but pot is
the safest drug out there.

I used to smoke weed many years ago and kinda miss it... I used to be a lot more creative with it, but it also began to make me paranoid every time I did it so I had to stop, I couldn't enjoy it anymore.

I do like my Guinness and/or single malt scotch, though!

This goes to show how different people are affected in different ways by the same things. My experience with alcohol and pot are exactly the reverse of yours. Fascinating!

Anonymous said...

ummm, for me Pot is sometimes a spiritual connection putting me in touch with an internal voice.....but, I agree, that voice is there whther one smokes or not. Just a note: Some people get very confused and paranoid on pot. Consciousness is a very personal, indidvdual experience.

Weed is great. It makes you feel just as good as being drunk does but without the nausea and hangovers. It makes sex even better (unless you smoke too much and can't get it up). It shouldn't be classified as an illegal drug because it grows naturally and is not addictive.

You're great K-rina

For most people I grew up with, and with very few exceptions, pot made them stupider and unaware if it. I haven't smoked pot for twenty years, all it ever did for me was to shut my brain down. I could barely remember my own name if I smoked. So for me, pot is the stupidest drug of them all. Not dangerous, like alcohol, not enlightening, just idiotic.

Muggins said...

@ Anonymous

There is no drug that makes you smarter. The point to taking drugs is not to get smarter, but to get stoned. Pot is not properly used if you want to maintain a sharp edge, like while driving or studying or making important decisions. It's a recreational drug. Not everybody is going to appreciate it, nor is everybody going to find harmony with it's users.

"AND It's irresponsible for her to promote it"

Where exactly did I promote it ? I never told people to go ahead and smoke pot, I talked about my personal experience with it and how it affects ME. I know very well that different people have different reactions to different substances. But saying that pot "makes most people stupid" is just as idiotic as saying "coffee makes most people nervous". Yeah it does, if you abuse it.

I never abuse my pot, I always treat it very nicely ;)

"I never abuse my pot, I always treat it very nicely ;)"

Well said! lol

I have a medical condition that, while it makes most people with my condition feel quite a bit better, it is also a major no-no for ME because of my other medication choices. Negates it out, essentially. I'd smoke if I could!!

K-rina, thank you for being ballsy enough to post this vid. Opinions like yours should not be censored out of this already too PC world. Variety in humanity makes us strong, not weak.

I am a little confused by the reason you smoke pot. You said you smoke it because you like it and it makes you feel good. But why do you like it and how does it make you feel good? Don't you have other things that make you feel good?

I just got turned on to your videos and i really appreciate how intelligent and rational you are. Your ideas are completely sound - i sincerely appreciate your views, as they are in concordance with mine as well. Your willingness to share your thoughts with the world is a wonderful thing and brings light to those who have seen them. Thank you for that!

I've seen smoking videos before and always thought they were dumb, but not this one for some reason. This reminds me of smoking with a good friend (no one in particular) and just sharing a few intimate (non-sexual) moments of "pot communion" together.

I don't smoke pot very often at all anymore but it was cool to see this video and remember that feeling and realize that i do miss that kind of relaxed and friendly sort of sharing thing.

Anyway, it was actually neat to watch - it felt like we were in the same room together and like we're really good friends, or even really new friends, and that's just really cool. Thanks!

Best of luck in your job search, too!

"Yeah it does, if you abuse it." Wrong - casual use makes you stupid, while you are under its effects. Long term use does damage. "Where exactly did I promote it ?" - Are you kidding? Yhis video promots pot use. Wow, I never before thought of you as intellectually dishonest. Now I do. AND "I never abuse my pot, I always treat it very nicely ;)" - Great, the little knowing wink at the end - perfect. Commenting, and also watching your videos has now become a waste of my time. Done.

I totally agree. I rarely smoke, but I enjoy it and I love the conversations I have on it. It's silly for it to be illegal when much more dangerous things are legal as soon as you're 18.

BTW I love your blog, it's really interesting.

Cristina Rad said...

I actually dont want people to keep watching me just because I confirm their already established ideas. I said I am not promoting pot with this video and I'm not. In fact I clearly stated that pot may be bad for you, but not for me. I gave my personal opinion and motives, as this is my personal blog, on which sometimes I want to post personal videos that I dont feel like putting on YouTube. And this is who I am and what I think.

Unknown said...

Haha, how fun, I'm a pot smoker from PR, I gotta say you look kinda sad while smoking lol but I wont hold that against you. While pot has some medicinal benefits, like you said, its quite ignorant to believe that people have that in their mind to kinda weigh in whether theyre gonna smoke it or not, although it obviously wont hurt as much as other types of drugs you do still get side effects with prolonged use. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Badjoke, if you are going to argue that smoking weed doesn't make someone less intelligent, you might want to consider writing something that doesn't appear to have been written by a retarded macaque.

We can all see that you enjoy consuming weed, alcohol, gasoline, and paint chips; however, I would certainly argue that this consumption does indeed play a major role in your apparent mental deficiency. Chances are you never had a chance to begin with though, so by all means have fun with that stuff.

In all seriousness though there is no moral argument, or really valid health argument against smoking the ganja. In cases of drug use I like to reference John Stuart Mill's direct harm principle, I believe it is appurtenant in the discussion.(or any discussion of liberty)

It's just chemicals affecting the brain, nothing more , nothing less."

I'm going to preface this by giving you some of my experience. I was clinically diagnosed ADHD suffering 13 long years of ritalin being shoved down my throat until I took a stand. I didn't try pot until i was 19. Pot in conjunction with music and atmosphere helped me to literally realize I was a human being and my actions affect those around me physically and emotionally. It wasn't even when I was intoxicated that I had realizations. I didn't need to be. The effects of the drug had already taken concrete hold. Now then...

It didn't have a spiritual tone to YOU. That was your EXPERIENCE. To invalidate those of us who have had, albeit minor personally, "spiritual" experiences while using pot is essentially a failure of perspective. Our experiences are who we are. People subjectively experience something we perceive to have "spiritual" tone or meaning.

Spiritual doesn't mean christian. A majority of the time the people you are bashing here (always exceptions) would reasonably state what they mean is CONSCIOUSNESS. An experience of self awareness. Just because you didn't experience things in this way does NOT MEAN WE ARE WRONG FOR REPORTING OUR OWN EXPERIENCE. Free speech indeed, hrm. :(

Hey K-rina,

I just thought could it be possible that these people who claims to feel a connectedness spiritually are seeking to find pretty much the same emotional state as you are in smoking pot, that is tranquility, peace of mind, inspiration to be creative etc.

Personally I would say that is very possible, and if this is so how would their way of seeking this be any less than relying on pot to find this state of peace. Im suggesting both of these are just strategies towards the same goal, that of seeking their truly being (for a while or on a more constant basis), the one existing underneath all the layers of social and environmental conditioning. that which lies beyond programming.

And personally I do not see what the possible disadvantages would be with 'spiritual' seeking in opposition to smoking pot to seek this state of mind/heart, although I can see how they could both turn out a pretty ugly experience.
But to go with the logic presented above by your beautiful self, that of "...pot may be bad for you, but not for me.", I would say the same logic could be applied on pretty much everything including 'spiritual' seeking.

Another question I had in mind. Are you of the believe/opinion that this universe is totally unintelligent, a product of coincidences?

Love your videos!

Love and peace ♥

Xerxes said...

Personally I look upon 'spirituality' as I look upon 'love'. Religion has a little to do with spirituality as the institution of marriage has to do with love, that is nothing whatsoever, in fact they are their very opposites.

Just as love is a heart matter, so is spirituality. both these needs not to rely on scientific data to be explained or to be 'proved' false or true, or may not even be possible to be fully explained by such, because both are not a product of logic in the lower sense, but something else.

Talk/texts about spirituality could in that sense be regarded as love poetry, just as poetry is not able to fully express the many complexities of an individual experience, spiritual texts may not be able to be fully satisfying either for someone who relies on them as evidence of something in a more scientific context.

What they both might do though, is to resonate with something deep inside of the individual reader or observer. at some point the connection might not be there at all, while at another point it might resonate on a very deep level with the same individual, that means the people who are not yet/if ever in a state where the specific texts/logic/sense all fall in place, they might not see what other individuals sees in those specific texts, just as is being the case with poetry of some other kind.

I completely agree about the rediculous ideas about being enlightened through drugs. Most people who claim this usually talk about eithey hallucinogens or pot, a whole culture exists around this, specially in North America. I find it embarrassing when such things as cannabis legalization movement gets taken over by nutjobs who want to legalize it because somehow they think people will be spiritually enlightened by it and who think it's healthy. (White people with dreadlock ugh..)
There is a whole group of people in USA and Canada who seriously think that weed can cure cancer. Which might be ok as long as they just kill themselves but they might get the idea to spread this thinking to their kids and grandma, then it's not so fun.

I have tried most well known and many not well known drugs there are, but only after reading up carefully on them.
I do find the experiences of psychedelics, like psylocibin mushrooms, very interesting, but I would never assume that the experiences told me anything about the real world, except of course how psylocibin affects the brain.
The most out-of-the-world experience I've ever had, was on Salvia Divinorum wich is legal in many countries.
If it told me anything about the universe, then the universe is seriously fucked up. A character from a police detective show on Swedish TV runs the entire universe, and he told me not to worry.
I don't perticularly like pot, but I grow my own in the summer, (it's not easy to do up in cold Sweden). Unless I smoke very much of it, I get this feeling like my legs have to move all the time from pot, still I smoke it in the autumn after I harvest my tiny crop. I usually like to get very very stoned so that I have to lay down, or not at all, so weekly smoking would be out of the question.

I used to smoke bud. I haven't smoked out in almost 2 years. I now get filled with the spirit (zero downside - all upside and a million x's better buzz - and yes I smoked the good stuff lol) So here's why so many have a faith fail. If you are holding loosely to your faith - you'll loose your grip on it completely. The enemy lies. Those lies will swallow up faith, remove it or empty it of any power. Those who believe but keep their faith inside a box, or keep areas of their life off limits to their faith are susceptible to losing their faith through doubt. Hold tightly or just forget it completely. This is more accurately the picture for many whether or not they acknowledge it. I am going to hold fast, hold tightly and stay a prayer / faith warrior. It is just a bonus that having the spirit is a thousand x's more potent than smoking herb, or eating it, or smoking the finest hash. If the spirit never work(s)ed that way for you, clean out the cubby hole (the, this is mine Lord, don't touch this over here) and you'll get the spirit that will slay you. Peace and happy herbal puffings.

Yeah, alcohol has that exact same effect on me. I hate it. It always seems so pointless and self-defeating. Pot, on the other hand, has that same activating, extroverting effect on me, and then some. It's the only thing that was ever able to help me with the cobwebs that build up (and continue to build up) in my mind, due to my post-traumatic stress disorder. In that sense - in MY sense - for me, it most certainly does, and has, (numerous times) enabled me to think clearer, calmer and more rationally. I might very well still be a guilt-ridden Christian if it wasn't for a weed-shroom trip that I had back in October 2005 that changed my life forever, and, most certainly - for the better!

I'd be wary of saying that pot can't make you smarter. I'm not saying that it does in the long run but it does affect the brain and can have different effects on different people. My roommate can pull some pretty incredible proofs out of his head when he's high, and I personally seem to start spouting thought experiments which are really interesting (and scientifically relevant) later on. The fact is that "smarter" is a vague concept, and you can't associate it properly with neuron firing rates, speed at solving standardized problems, or any other simple metric.

Hey, I know this was posted forever ago but I just discovered your blog so I was reading through it. :)

I appreciate this post a lot. My view is exactly the same, even with the comparison of alcohol. Alcohol just makes me feel sick and tired, and then regretful the next morning. I smoke (well, "vape") pot everyday and it's helped me immensely with anxiety problems I have. It also allows me to sleep, but aside from that, it's just fun and virtually harmless for me to do. I still get all As or nearly all As in school, I can still work, and just lead a productive life in general.

It does make things feel a bit more spiritual for me, but that's just a result of the chemicals it affects in the brain. When you're extremely relaxed it's easy for things to feel ~ethereal.

So glad I stumbled upon you on the web! You're a very intelligent and down-to-earth girl. Funny, too. :)
