Books, they still make these ?
Glad to know you are still vlogging even when your Internet is down. Will you consider creating a YT channel for your vlogs ? You could be a YT partner and earn some money from it.

Eat ya heart out Bear Grylls

yes, its a swift. They are to big for swallows and there are also no swallow blisters on the wall. Swifts breed in hollow caves under the roof.
Its good that you did not put it back. Very often there is one nest after the other, and if you put it in the wrong one, then the parents will recognize it and throw it out. I hope the guy will make it.

One thing more: If you are interrested in survival arts: Rüdiger Nehberg is the prototype of the so called survival specialists "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BCdiger_Nehberg".
Next to that he is a great and funny guy who founded two NGOs to stand up against Female Genital Mutilation in Africa and to protect the Yanomami in South America. Both organisations achieved substantial results up to now. I saw him two times on presentations in Germany. . . good charisma, very funny and. . .atheist.

Your blog is sensational, Cristina. Compose a synopsis of your imagined post-apocalyptic adventure, then get your ass to a copyright office please!!!

I would die off immediately. Not because i wouldn't be able to maintain myself, but because i wouldn't want to. I mean, without my ethernet connectivity, i will choose death. The beasts can feast on my corpse..It would be my pleasure.

Love your blog Cristina!

I'd be in the same boat as you seeing as I don't think I could kill anything to save my life. Besides, don't think it would be much fun living in the post-apocalyptic world anyway.

I sleep about 5-6hrs a night during week(work) days, but non-work days my sleeping patterns just go crazy (to the point that I become practically nocturnal during holidays). I also have incredible difficulty transitioning between being awake and asleep (and vice versa) which is a monumental pain in the arse. :\

The birds. You fed them after midnight didn't you. Tut tut.

Girls are not hunters Criss :p You can provide sex for your man and he hunts hahaha

Almost certainly I would die. There are plenty enough food for everyone as long as we grow it with modern equipment, but as a hunter-gatherer society, there are orders of magnitude too many people in the world (and that is true locally even in thinly populated areas). Only the very strongest and best educated survivalists would make it and I am not one of them. I spent some time in the army and learned a little, but only enough to know how little I know. It takes roughly the same time to train a good hunter and a good heart surgeon.

Btw, if you think you "couldn't kill animals" for food, you haven't gone 14 days without food. Moral thoughts tend to stem from the nice time where one is warm, filled and relaxed. When one gets afraid or hungry enough, the animal within gradually takes over. I know from experience. Trying to picture yourself as Criss of the Jungle in bear pelt bikini with a flint spear and hair everywhere doesn't cut it; you can't know what it's like until you've been there.

You can get by on less sleep your body will adapt. If you just give into what you think your body needs, you’re going to sleep 20 years more than your husband does. And I don’t believe your metabolism has anything to do with how much sleep you need, if it did why would old people wake up so early. Aren’t I annoying… sorry.

Excellent vid. I am curious about the shelters you can make. I too, couldn't hunt, but even if I could, it would be pointless, because I (too) am a vegetarian.

I sleep 5-6 hours/night. My darling wife sleeps 10-14.

Do you have someone to care for the birds if you come to the United States?

Cristina Rad said...

@T : If they live until then they should be big enough to eat on their own (as in, without being hand fed) and my grandma can look after them for a few days. Though the lil one seems to be a bit sick ... :/

Wow, I may not agree with her on some issues, but what a wonderful thing it is trying to help a little helpless animal. This might sound cliche'd but this world would be so much a better place if everyone acted like this. But I do have a question. Isn't meat a little too dry? shouldn't it be more liquidy to keep the bird hydrated? Anyway, you may be interested in this youtuber: http://www.youtube.com/user/MaryCummins

To be honest, I think I'd survive a while. I know how to collect and filter water, cultivate plants, build a shelter and even make some rudimentary traps for small, furry (and tasty) animals. Plus, if I can get into the routine of it, I can survive on 5-6 hours a night.

Also <3 the baby bird, it's adorable.

So cute! And the bird is cute, too.

I keep a gallon of water in my room and I can finish that much water in a few days, so it might be difficult to go without that amount if disaster struck.

I think I would survive (or at least I'd like to think), I'm pretty resourceful and good at solving problems.

I know how to make things like soaps, lotions and washes without machinery or chemicals, just the natural stuff. I also study herbs, so I could probably cook up some salves for cuts and scrapes to avoid infection. I can make tinctures for coughs too.

I can do first aid for the minor stuff, serious breaks and I know how to stop bleeding, but I can't do CPR. D:

LOL I think about this stuff all the time.

Anyway, you're so kind for taking the baby birds in! I remember when I was in high school there was this tiny bird stuck in between the lockers and we managed to get him out and put him back with his family.

I guess he was terrified (probably because of the hundreds of kids walking past him) and tried to find a safe place.

Ok, I'll stop talking now lol.

Bye for now.

XOXO

haha epic ending. I hope to see more next time.

I'm sure I could last a month or two. But it would get to the point of ... what's the point? If I'm the only one left I'd lose the will to survive.

any news on your planned upcoming international trips? I really hope you can go.

Just the other day I stepped out onto my front porch in my socks and I stepped on a baby bird. It was already dead Im sure, but it was pretty gross.

well, i do need 8-9 hours of sleep a day but i usually get about 6. and on the survival level? well i`d be doing just fine. I m a sailor so i almost always have a quality knife on me and i`ve read the SAS survival handbook many times + i watch a lot of the survival shows on discovery when i have time. if i might say so myself i`m quite smart and know how to fabricate stuff with my bare hands, i know my plants (and enough mushrooms). the bird you have there is probably a swift(or Gierzwaluw in dutch). to be precise its an Apus apus(thats latin) i think. you are right about their diet. they eat lots of flies normally. if all is well they should fly out in 39-43 days from their birth. and we have the same phone i think. Samsung star right?

I've been able to function on only 3 hours of sleep, and I've pulled an all nighter... but, I appreciate my sleep. On average, I get about 6-7 hours... but if I'm left undisturbed, I can sleep for 10-12 hours, but that's just because I like sleeping lol. And as far as survival does... I have a knack for getting out of things I probably shouldn't be able to. So, who knows what will happen.

That baby bird was so cuuuute!! It was so nice of you to take him in :)

Thank you a million times for taking care of the swift! You know what "Replenish the Earth" means.

The apocalypse?!? What a somber topic! The apocalypse is no laughs! Worry about the apocalypse some other time.

Those birds outside would drive me a bit crazy. The little one is really cute though. I hope he makes it :)

I usually sleep between 7 and 10 hours. It depends on how comfortable I feel about where I am sleeping. If something wipes out civilization (when I feel threatened) I will sleep less. I expect my chance of survival will initially depend on where I am when they disaster occurs and how many people I am competing with.

Hey, could you please elaborate on festivals you will be part off? esp switzerland one; will you be a speaker, if so what is your educational background regarding the subjects?
thanx

I would eat little birdies fallen from their nests.

Anonymous said...

I eat more than other people, and they say I'm greedy. That annoys me a lot. But I don't sleep a lot. Even on the weekend, I'm up at 7. I don't think I'd survive well on my own - I might have the state of mind, but I don't have the skills!!!!

thethegreenmachine said...

I'm not sure how long I'd survive. I guess it depends on what's left after the apocalypse. (E.g. I'd definitely need shoes and something to boil water in.)
My sleep is very messed up. Usually I'm in bed for 10 hours and am able to sleep 7-8 of those hours. Sometimes I can't sleep at all, which makes me dumb and slow until I'm finally able to catch up on sleep. When I'm catching up on sleep, I can sleep 12-20 hours, usually around 15.
They look like swifts, but it's a little hard to tell. I don't know what swifts sound like, but these don't sound like swallows. I think if that 30 foot fall hurt them then they'd be dead by now. You might wanna use smaller pieces of meat to ease digestion. Try not to lose a finger :P

Hey, I used to enjoy watching your YouTube channel very much, and I recently stumbled upon it again as I was trying to teach myself some Romanian. I haven't known enough (any) Romanians, and since I recently took up this endeavor to learn the language, I am eager to find someone who can help me. Would you be interested in corresponding with a fellow atheist? ...vă rog? :)
